Sunday Salon - Digital Writing Matters & Sunday Funnies

Sunday Salon - Another laid back day of cleaning, mopping and vacuuming.  Days like this I wish I had a house elf.  (Notice the cleverly inserted Harry Potter allusion!)

Books for teachers - As a teacher and a curriculum expert, I recognize the need to engage students in authentic instruction creating products that are relevant.  I could quote many experts, but the bottom line is that to really teach students to learn to think and problem solve, we have to make sure we engage them in their learning.

Over the past two weeks I've been reading the book, Because Digital Writing Matters. (produced by the National Writing Project)  This book focuses on the need to include digital writing, like blogs, social networking, wikis and discussion boards, in the classroom.  Too often the teacher relies on pen and paper to asses something that the student could have created in a digital format.

This is a great book, based on the current educational theory.  I always suggest any book published through the National Writing Project, but if you like to include writing in your classroom, then check out varied ways to add digital writing.

If you are interested in looking at excerpts from the book, check out this link from Amazon.

It is certainly challenging to engage young minds these days. How does one interrupt all that texting? LOL

To meet them where they live, in the digital world, makes sense.

I keep thinking that our young students should be doing more writing on the computer. Thanks for sharing this book that confirms my thoughts.

Here's my Sunday Salon for today. Hope you will stop by.
